Twitter Blue, a $ 3 monthly subscription service, could be coming soon

Good news for regular tweeters: Twitter Blue, a $ 2.99 monthly subscription, seems to be coming soon to your nearest Timeline. Two weeks ago, researcher Jane Manchun Wong reported for the first time that the new Twitter subscription service was in operation. But yesterday, the Twitter app for the iOS App Store was updated to be included in the Twitter Blue list as an in-app purchase, confirming previous findings from this illegal source. Although users have not yet been able to sign up for Twitter Blue - or after downloading an app update - Wong dug up details about the service, indicating that its launch could be imminent.

In addition to the retrieve button, introduced by Wong in early March, the service will incorporate reading mode, which converts tweet threads into “easy-to-read text.” Twitter has received Scroll and Revue this year in an effort to improve users ’reading experience in the app, so this addition makes sense. Also, users will be able to change the color of the Twitter app icon, as well as their Timeline color theme, a feature already available on the web. Twitter Blue subscribers can also edit tweets in collections – this feature looks like an updated version of Bookmarks, but with the added power of editing tweets in folders.

Currently, Twitter ads make up 85% of the company’s revenue. Twitter told Bloomberg in February that it plans to “research and experiment” with new ways to monetize the platform, especially as its user growth slowed. But over the past few months, Twitter has cracked down on some of the biggest changes to the platform since it doubled the 140 tweet limit in 2018. These features include Super Follows, Tip Jar, Twitter Spaces, and more.

This week at JP Morgan’s Global Technology, Media, and Communications conference, Twitter CFO Ned Segal revealed that the company views Twitter Blue and Super Follows as two different types of subscriptions. On Google Play, the Twitter app page lists the in-app product at $ 4.99 per item, which could signal the upcoming launch of Super Follows, too. Segal also said that Twitter would provide more information about the service in the coming months, and “eventually pass it on to people around the world.”

Lastly, for those of us who are wondering – no, there is no indication of the “edit tweet” button at this time.
